"I want to thank you for your support over the last few years, for all your hard work and effort, for the respect both you and Paul have shown me and for achieving an outcome when all seemed lost.
When JWS agreed to provide pro bono support to me, I had been battling the people running KLALC – though not its members, who were kept in the dark and never consulted by the KLALC executive – for more than 25 years. I had been evicted and made homeless, and threatened by bankruptcy, by a so-called Aboriginal Land Council, using public money, not to provide Aboriginal people like me with land or a home but to dispossess me and make me homeless.
Both you and Paul – and the team at JWS – fought hard for me, you brought some humanity to an issue in which my humanity had been almost destroyed and I had absolute trust in you because of the way you treated me and handled my case. I felt supported by you and Paul, I could see how hard you were both working and you offered me emotional support too, for example when Wayne was dying.
I will be forever grateful to everyone at JWS but especially to yourself and Paul Batley for all your support. It will make it possible for me to let go of this very distressing 30-year drama in my life, to heal, and to concentrate now on telling my story to the world, so that this never happens to anyone again."
