Johnson Winter Slattery advises Argo Queensland on proposed acquisition of controlling interest in Fitzroy Australia’s steelmaking coal business

Johnson Winter Slattery (JWS) has advised Argo Queensland on its proposed acquisition of a 70 per cent controlling interest in Fitzroy Australia’s steelmaking coal business.

Fitzroy Australia owns the Ironbark, Carborough Downs and Broadlea coal mines, along with other exploration and development projects, in Central Queensland.

The Queensland Government described the deal as a major vote of confidence in Queensland’s coal industry which will deliver major new investment to secure a long-term future for Central Queensland.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli said the deal means long-term jobs, long-term investment and long-term confidence for the communities that power Queensland’s economy.

JWS assisted Argo Queensland in navigating complex legal and commercial issues during the transaction.

Energy & Resources Partners Bruce Adkins, Stuart Clague and Nick Thorne and Special Counsel Richard Brockett led the JWS team.

Stuart commented, “We are delighted to have acted for Argo Queensland on this significant transaction and look forward to supporting them in the next stages of their investment.”
