Tom Barrett Special Counsel

Tom is an experienced energy and resources lawyer.

He has advised clients on a range of oil and gas, LNG, mining and electricity projects throughout Australia (including associated commercial agreements) and in respect of various aspects of petroleum, mining, electricity, environmental and native title legislation and regulation.

Tom’s work has ranged from advising clients on operational matters through to the development of projects and the sale and purchase of interests in projects (both at an asset and share level).

Work highlights

Beach Energy Limited (ASX:BPT)

Advised on its AU$87.5 million acquisition of Senex Energy Limited’s Cooper Basin petroleum assets, its acquisition of Mitsui & Co’s interests in the Bass Basin (including the BassGas project and the Trefoil development), and on farmin and other arrangements for offshore petroleum titles.

Bowen Coking Coal Limited (ASX:BCB)

Advised on its acquisition of the Bluff Coal Mine assets in Queensland, and its acquisition of a 90% interest in the Lenton Joint Venture (which owns the Lenton Project and Burton Coal Mine located in Queensland) from New Hope Corporation Limited.

Gold Road Resources Limited (ASX:GOR)

Advised on the development of a diesel-gas fired power station for the Gruyere Gold Mine in Western Australia, including negotiating and drafting all project documentation.

Novo Resources Corp. (TSX:NVO)

Advised on its AU$130 million acquisition of Millennium Minerals Limited, which owned various gold processing infrastructure and tenements in Nullagine, Western Australia, and various other acquisitions of gold assets in Western Australia.

Santos Limited (ASX:STO)

Advised on the development of the Barossa LNG gas project, including negotiating and drafting the contractual arrangements to allow the Caldita-Barossa joint venture participants to have their equity gas toll processed into LNG at the Darwin LNG plant.

State of South Australia

Advised on the development of the 100MW grid-connected BESS at the Hornsdale Wind Farm, including negotiating and drafting the Battery Energy Storage Service contract with Tesla and Neoen and other project documentation.
