Liam is a Partner in our Corporate / M&A team.
He specialises in advising institutional investors on a range of complex private capital transactions. These institutional investors include private equity and venture capital funds, pension and superannuation funds, sovereign wealth funds and global asset managers.
Liam advises on:
- corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, venture capital and growth equity investments, and minority investments;
- fund transactions and investments (advising both general partners and limited partners); and
- joint ventures, including complex consortium governance arrangements between institutional investors.
Prior to joining Johnson Winter Slattery in 2026, Liam worked at a major multi-national law firm, and before that he worked in Boston, United States where he advised private equity firms on a wide range of corporate transactions – with a focus on buyout transactions and venture capital investments. He has also previously worked as an in-house legal counsel at an investment fund and as a judicial associate.

Substantial minority investment in GreenCollar, an Australian carbon markets project developer, alongside KKR and subsequent buy-out of GreenCollar from KKR and other existing shareholders (Deal of the Year – Asia Pacific at Agri Investor Awards 2023).*

Acquisition of a strategic interest in Poolwerx, an Australian franchising business with business activities in Australia, the US and NZ.*

Disposal of its material minority investment in GPA to a Canadian pension fund through a competitive auction process.*

In previous roles, Liam has worked on over 25 venture capital investments in the technology (principally software) and healthcare sectors in the United States utilising the NVCA standard-form documentation.*
