NEW YORK AND SYDNEY, September 11, 2026 – Johnson Winter Slattery (JWS) today announced the opening of a representative office in New York, strengthening the firm’s ability to support US clients deploying capital in Australia. The office will only practise Australian law.
The move responds to substantial growth in US investment into Australia and builds on JWS's longstanding relationships with US corporates, financial sponsors and advisers. The US continues to be Australia’s largest source of foreign investment, particularly across the firm’s key areas of private equity, venture capital, technology and energy.
Johnson Winter Slattery will be the only Australian law firm to have a dedicated presence in the US. The New York office will focus on supporting clients investing and operating in Australia and serve as a direct point of access to JWS's transaction, regulatory and disputes teams across Australia.

The office will be led by Corporate Partner Andrew Turner, who advises on cross-border M&A and foreign investment. The New York team will work with the firm’s foreign investment and competition teams to assist clients with foreign direct investment (FIRB) and antitrust approvals, regulatory strategy and transaction execution. Andrew Turner said: “US investors are increasingly confronted with complex Australian regulatory issues and market differences that impact deal execution. Our presence in New York allows us to closely guide clients and their advisers as opportunities develop.”
