JWS adds tax specialist in Melbourne

Leading independent law firm Johnson Winter Slattery has appointed senior tax specialist, Don Spirason, as a Special Counsel based in Melbourne.

Don is a highly regarded tax lawyer, with more than 20 years’ experience including more than 10 years at BHP and 5 years at Foster’s Group.  Don was most recently Vice President Tax at BHP. He began his career at Corrs Chambers Westgarth and has since worked for leading multinational corporates in all areas of tax including transfer pricing, tax policy, transactions, tax disputes and engagement with regulators.

Commenting on his arrival, JWS Managing Partner Jeremy Davis said, “Don brings excellent commercial and technical skills to the firm. We have been steadily growing our tax practice and Don’s experience will add significant value to our corporate clients.”

In joining the firm, Don said, “I am looking forward to working alongside JWS’ leading tax team to provide comprehensive tax solutions to our clients.” 

Don’s arrival comes off the back of the firm appointing two tax partners in 2022 – Matthew Shanahan and Annemarie Wilmore from Deloitte and KPMG respectively.
