Leading independent law firm Johnson Winter Slattery (JWS) has advised Deloitte on its acquisition of PwC Australia’s interest in PwC Indigenous Consulting, which is co-owned by Indigenous-owned corporate and governance structures. The business will be rebranded as ‘Yamagigu Consulting Pty Limited’, which encapsulates its strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

JWS acted as Deloitte’s external legal counsel on the acquisition and advised on shareholder and governance structures for the jointly owned Indigenous business.

Being a Supply Nation-certified business, Yamagigu Consulting provides a broad range of consulting services, including government procurement work. As noted by Deloitte’s CEO, Yamagigu Consulting brings together market-leading Indigenous consulting and advisory expertise and Deloitte’s deep professional services capabilities to support the invaluable ongoing work of the largest First Nations consulting business in Australia.

JWS Corporate Partner Andrew Williams led the transaction, with assistance from Special Counsel Kate Naude and David Li and Associate Thulasie Venkat.

Partner Andrew Williams commented, “We are pleased to have advised Deloitte, as part of our long-standing relationship, on this significant acquisition. This represents an important step in Deloitte’s engagement and consulting work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We look forward to seeing the continued growth and partnership between Deloitte and the Yamagigu Consulting team in effecting meaningful change that creates greater prosperity and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities Australia wide.”

This transaction highlights the firm’s expertise in complex M&A and advising high-profile entities on their significant and challenging acquisitions.
