JWS announces five internal partner appointments

Leading independent law firm, Johnson Winter Slattery, has announced five internal partner appointments, effective from 1 July 2023.

JWS Managing Partner, Jeremy Davis said the firm was particularly pleased to see the promotion of such a strong group of internal lawyers to the partnership.

“This year’s promotions highlight the high calibre of talent within our firm. Each of our new partners has demonstrated outstanding technical expertise and client service and we are delighted to see them progress to this significant milestone in their career.”

JWS’ new partner appointments are:

Emily Barrett, R&I: Emily is a restructuring, insolvency and commercial litigation lawyer specialising in all aspects of external administrations, security enforcement, insolvency and commercial dispute resolution. She has experience in all facets of external administrations from restructuring via Deeds of Company Arrangement and other workouts through to litigation.

Rebecca  Cifelli, REPC: Rebecca is a transactional and advisory lawyer specialising in projects and construction. She advises on complex projects across a broad range of sectors with particular experience working with energy and resources clients. She assists with risk allocations, tendering and drafting and negotiation of contract documentation at the commencement of a project and continues to advise clients during the development and operational phase.

Eleanor Kwak, REPC: Eleanor is a real estate lawyer specialising in social infrastructure, property development, property sales and acquisitions, commercial leasing, joint ventures and major projects. She has extensive experience acting on a wide range of transactions in the commercial, industrial and residential property sectors.

Kirsten Scott, DR&E: Kirsten is a leading dispute resolution lawyer with expertise in white-collar crime. She specialises in contentious regulatory and enforcement matters from the investigation stage to defended administrative, civil, civil penalty and criminal proceedings. Her practice has a strong focus on supporting clients in the energy and resources sector.

In addition to the above partner promotions, Byron Koster rejoins the JWS partnership.

Byron Koster, Corporate: Byron is a corporate lawyer specialising in public M&A and corporate law. He has extensive experience in contested takeovers, schemes of arrangement, ASX listings, foreign investment, joint ventures, share buy backs and Corporations Act compliance. Byron is returning to partnership after 3 years as a consultant to the firm.
