JWS grows its native title offering with new partner

News

William Oxby joined Johnson Winter & Slattery as a new partner in its Brisbane office on 27 April 2021. William’s appointment will bolster the firm’s expertise in environment and planning, with a special focus on native title to meet growing demands in this area.

William brings more than 20 years’ experience in environmental, planning and native title advisory and dispute work. Prior to setting up his own practice in 2020, William spent 10 years as an environment and planning partner at Herbert Smith Freehills. He has a national practice working closely with clients across Australia’s energy and resources sector.

Johnson Winter & Slattery’s Managing Partner Peter Slattery said William’s experience will support the firm’s growth in Brisbane and nationally.

“Our Energy and Resources practice is one of the largest and most experienced in Australia. William’s deep experience in native title will bolster our credentials and better position us to assist clients with their resources and infrastructure projects throughout Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.”

“William’s appointment follows the recent lateral hires of partners Bruce Adkins and Stuart Clague, who also joined the firm’s energy and resources practice in Brisbane last year. William’s expertise will complement their work and help further grow our client base in the region.”

William said he is excited to have joined the team.

“Johnson Winter & Slattery is known for its strong expertise in energy and resources and is growing its presence in the Brisbane market rapidly. Working as part of a full service firm with a similar client base is a great opportunity and I look forward to supporting the firm’s ongoing growth in the region.”

William is regularly recognised as a leader in his field, including being ranked Band 1 for Native Title in Chambers Asia Pacific 2021.
