In Sydney, we do things differently! JWS offers internship opportunities to students in their last two years of Law School.
Our interns typically work full time during the holidays, similar to a ‘summer clerkship’, but also on a part time basis during the academic term. This provides an opportunity for you to play an ongoing role in complex transactions and disputes.
Over the summer months we look forward to our interns working with us on a full time basis, however we can be flexible if needed. We know it is a busy time of the year for travel and international exchanges and we encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities if they arise.
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work in a select practice group or gain experience across all of our practice areas. JWS is an exceptional place to begin your career, build relationships with some of Australia’s most successful companies whilst being mentored and taught by some of Australia’s best lawyers.
Applications open - Monday, 4 March 2019
Applications close - Tuesday, 2 April 2019

We believe that a diverse range of experiences helps to develop the legal and commercial skills required to provide first class counsel to clients, and the necessary foundation for later specialisation in your career. From clerkship right through to partner, we encourage and support all our lawyers to proactively develop and manage their careers. Lawyers are not pigeon-holed in the early stage of their careers, allowing them to work across a variety of practices and pursue their interests as they develop.
While on-the-job training is essential for career development, this is supplemented by a structured professional development program for practitioners at all levels. Refer to the diagram below for career steps and development programs at JWS.
